1. Use appropriate Shampoo for colored hair.
After hair coloring, you must only use Sulfate-free shampoos and hair conditioners. Sulfate would remove hair moisture and make it dry. The added pigment to the hair is removed when the hair is dry and then fades the color.
2. Wash your hair less than before.
After coloring your hair, you must not wash your hair more than two or three times a week. When you wash your hair, you remove the protective follicle oils. Preserving natural hair oils is the key to having bright and shiny hair. The oils produced by head skin also help prevent fragile and dry hair.
3. Take a shower with mild water.
Use only cold or mild water to wash and rinse your hair, especially for the root and your head skin. That would help the follicle resistance and color preservation in your dyed hair. When you wash your hair with hot water, the color fades away faster.
4. Regular use of hair conditioners.
Protecting the hair follicle by using appropriate hair conditioners, after-bath hair conditioners, or hot oil treatments would help you preserve hair structure and prevent color fade. Use appropriate hair conditioner for dyed hair. Dry your hair naturally. Heat is the enemy of natural hair. Using hairdryers to dry your hair can cause damage, fracture, and fragility in your hair. Fragile hair can remove the color pigments from the follicle. Try to dry your hair with a towel and let it dry in the air.
6. Do not go to bed with wet hair.
Take enough time to dry your hair before going to bed. Wet hair would harm the hair and cause fractures. If you have long hair and you do not have time to dry it, wear a braid and do not make a ponytail. Because it could also put the hair under pressure and cause hair fracture when rolling during sleeping.
7. Avoid styling your hair with heat.
Styling your hair by hair curling and straightening irons would severely fade the hair color.
8. Avoid chlorine contact on dyed hair.
Chlorine in the swimming pools can have an undesirable effect on dyed hair. Chlorine can turn the blond color of hair into green color. Chemicals in the pool can also affect other colors. If you have to swim, first wet your hair and apply a hair conditioner or coconut oil to your hair to protect it; moreover, you can use a swimming cap to protect your hair. Use a cleansing Shampoo to gently remove the remains of Chlorine on the hair after leaving the pool.
9. Cut your hair regularly:
Cut your hair every two weeks after dyeing your hair. This will help eliminate split ends. The hair coloring pigments are stored in the hair cortex, which is made up of long protein coils called Keratin. Resistance of Keratin coils would guarantee the resistance of your hair. Exposure to sunlight, Chlorine or chemicals, and extreme heat might decrease the resistance of your hair strings. When Keratin breaks down, split ends appear. The bad thing about split ends is that they expand across the entire hair strings as soon as they appear. Regular trimming eliminates split ends, helps preserve hair healthy, and retains synthetic pigments.
